If you are like many glasses or contact lens wearers, you have probably heard of, and maybe even thought about having Lasik eye surgery. Although eye surgery may sound intimidating, Lasik is a very common and one of the most successful surgeries performed anywhere in the body. You are awake during the entire procedure and have very minimal to no discomfort. Valium may be given before, during, or after the procedure to ease any nerves associated with the procedure. Technology has advanced to an all time high when it comes to Lasik. During Lasik, a very precise laser is used to make a small "flap" in the outermost portion of your cornea, your epithelium. This technology significantly reduces risks that were associated with manual flap creation. New technology, along with a highly skilled surgeon decreases risks associated with the procedure. The other aspect that significantly reduces any risks of complication, is first determining if you are a proper candidate. A thorough consultation before hand will ensure whether you are a good candidate for the procedure. Here at Eye Care Center, we offer a complimentary lasik evaluation and consultation! You may have several questions about what to expect, and what makes you a good candidate. We are happy and excited to sit down with you and go over all questions and answers that you may have regarding Lasik. There are several different options that can reduce your dependency on glasses or contact lenses. Refractive surgery has advanced rapidly and is capable of treating a wide range of prescriptions from nearsightedness, farsightedness, and even astigmatism. We can help determine if you are a candidate, talk through the rewards and risks, recommend an excellent surgical team, and continue your follow-up care at our office. We will see you the next day at our office in College Station, and then again at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. After that, we usually recommend continuing with annual eye and ocular health exams. If you are over 18 years of age, in good overall health, and have had a stable prescription for at least 1 year, you are well on your way to being a successful Lasik candidate. Schedule your FREE Lasik consultation today at Eye Care Center and let us help determine if you are a candidate and answer any and all questions you may have!
